Learn about the different permission levels in Jotboard — Owner, Editor, and Viewer — and how to control who can do what on your board.

How to set board permissions

When you share a board, you can control what each person is allowed to do by assigning them a permission level.

Permission levels

  • Owner — Full control over the board. Can edit, share, delete, and manage permissions. The person who creates a board is automatically the owner.
  • Editor — Can draw, add objects, move content, and interact with everything on the board. Cannot delete the board or change sharing settings.
  • Viewer — Can see the board and watch changes in real time, but cannot make any edits.

Setting permissions

  1. Open the Share modal by clicking the Share button.
  2. When adding a person by email, choose their permission level from the dropdown.
  3. For general link access, set the default permission to Viewer, Editor, or No access.

Changing permissions

You can change a collaborator’s permission at any time:

  1. Open the Share modal.
  2. Find the person in the list.
  3. Click the dropdown next to their name and select a new permission level.

Tips

  • For classroom use, sharing as Editor lets students contribute, while Viewer is useful for showing completed work.
  • Only board owners can assign the Owner permission to others.
