How to use Jotboard for teaching
Jotboard is designed to be an easy-to-use collaborative whiteboard for educators. Here are some tips for getting the most out of it in your classroom.
Setting up for a lesson
- Create a board for your lesson and give it a clear name (e.g. “Science - Photosynthesis - Year 8”).
- Add slides for each section of your lesson. You can prepare content in advance or add slides during the lesson.
- Import PDF backgrounds if you have existing lesson slides — upload each page as a slide background.
- Choose a background grid if your lesson involves graphing or maths (e.g. the blue graph or grey graph background).
Sharing with students
- Click Share and set general access to Editor so students can contribute.
- Copy the link or display the QR code on your projector for students to scan.
- Students don’t need a paid plan — they collaborate for free.
During the lesson
- Use the laser pointer to draw attention to content while presenting.
- Switch to fullscreen mode for a clean presentation view.
- Students can add sticky notes, draw, and type on the board in real time.
- Use lock on objects you don’t want students to move.
After the lesson
- Export the board as a PDF to share with students who were absent.
- Use version history to review the progression of the lesson.
- Duplicate the board to create a template for your next class.
Tips
- Assign different slides to different groups for group work activities.
- Use coloured sticky notes for categorising student responses.
- Prepare template boards and duplicate them for each class to save setup time.
