How to group and ungroup objects

Learn how to group objects on your Jotboard whiteboard so you can move, copy, duplicate, lock, and delete them as a single unit.

How to group and ungroup objects

Grouping lets you combine multiple objects into a single unit. Once grouped, selecting any object in the group automatically selects all of them, so you can move, copy, duplicate, lock, or delete them together.

Grouping objects

  1. Select two or more objects. Hold Shift and click each object, or press Ctrl+A (or Cmd+A on Mac) to select all objects on the slide.
  2. Right-click on any selected object and click Group. Alternatively, press Ctrl+G (or Cmd+G on Mac).

The objects are now grouped. Clicking any one of them will select the entire group.

Ungrouping objects

  1. Click on any object in the group to select it (the whole group will be selected).
  2. Right-click on any selected object and click Ungroup. Alternatively, press Ctrl+Shift+G (or Cmd+Shift+G on Mac).

The objects are now independent and can be selected individually again.

What works with groups

  • Move — Drag any object in the group to move them all together.
  • Copy and paste — Press Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V (or Cmd+C / Cmd+V on Mac). The pasted objects form their own independent group.
  • Cut — Press Ctrl+X (or Cmd+X on Mac) to cut the entire group.
  • Duplicate — Right-click and select Duplicate. The duplicated objects form their own independent group.
  • Delete — Press Delete or Backspace to delete the entire group.
  • Lock / Unlock — Right-click and select Lock to lock all objects in the group at once. Locked groups cannot be moved, resized, or deleted until unlocked.
  • Undo / Redo — Grouping and ungrouping can be undone with Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac) and redone with Ctrl+Shift+Z (or Cmd+Shift+Z on Mac).

Tips

  • You can add ungrouped objects to a group by selecting both the group and the new objects, then grouping them again.
  • Duplicating or copying a slide preserves all groups on it.
  • Change order is disabled for grouped objects. Ungroup them first if you need to reorder individual objects.
